Band-Master Chassis robrob Normal Channel Reverb Mod This is my recommended mod to add reverb and tremolo to the Normal channel in blackface and silverface amps. Using this method we join the two channels using their own coupling caps and mixing resistors in a relatively noninvasive way. With each channel using a coupling cap and mixing resistor to feed the reverb circuit and V4B preamp, both channels’ output are perfectly balanced with minimum attenuation and channel interaction. By preserving the Normal channel coupling cap we can use it to voice the channel such as in the Lead Channel Mod.

First, on the Pro Reverb the early silverface AA is not the same circuit as the classic blackface AB , although some later blackfaces may have used the AA circuit and probably did. The circuit was revised again AB , sales starting in early ’69, and again AA with amps hitting the stores in early Next revision AA would have started sales in mid-late or early The next schematic I can find deviates from the traditional numbering series and is designated “F ” and features the master volume, ultralinear transformer, and is rated at 70 watts.

I’m not really into that sort of thing but my 68 had one on there when I bought it and I haven’t bothered to put the original silver one back on since it is, for all intents and purposes a blackface. Of all the tubes I’ve auditioned in those amps, RCA’s and Tung Sol’s vintage, not re-issue are easily the best sounding in the preamp and power positions. Mullard or Amperex rectifier tubes are the only way to fly. I hook mine up to a variac to get v which gives them a slightly more natural, deep sound than the v that is coming ouit of my walls.
